About an hour before your appointment, you take a small oral medication, usually from a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. This helps reduce anxiety and promotes a deep sense of relaxation. You may feel very calm and may not remember much of the treatment afterward. Because it can make you sleepy, it’s important to have someone drive you home. Oral sedation is especially useful for patients with moderate dental anxiety or for longer procedures, making your visit easier and more comfortable.
